Brian Engblom Biography

Brian Engblom is a former NHL player and current hockey broadcaster. As a player, Engblom got his start in college at the University of Wisconsin, earning All WHCA First Team and All American honors in his final season. In the 1975 NHL Draft, Engblom was taken 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadians. Engblom played his first two professional seasons with the Canadians’ AHL affiliate, amassing an All Star honor and winning the Eddie Shore award in 1977 for being the AHL’s best defender. Once promoted to the NHL, Engblom was a part of three Stanley Cup Championship teams, and was named an All Star in 1982. His career ended prematurely as bone spurs in his back would force Engblom to retire in 1987 after playing 11 seasons, scoring 29 goals and 177 assists. Following his retirement, Engblom picked up a career in broadcasting, initially working with ESPN starting in 1992. Currently, Engblom works as a color analyst for Winnipeg Jets’ broadcasts, and contributes to NBC Sports Network’s hockey coverage.
