Butch Harmon Biography

Butch Harmon grew up around golf.  His father, Claude Harmon, Sr. won the 1948 Masters and fostered a love of the game in his son.  After playing multiple sports in high school he played golf at the University of Houston and then turned pro after serving in the United States Army for three years and seeing action in the Vietnam War.  During his pro career he won a tournament on the PGA Tour and served as a club professional in the United States.  In the early 1990’s he found his niche as a swing coach and was hired to help out PGA legend Greg Norman.  Since that time he has become the instructor to the stars, coaching Tiger Woods from 1993 to 2004 and eventually working with such names as Phil Mickelson, Greg Norman, David Love III, and Justin Leonard.  In 2003 he was named the top golf teacher in the United States and has since worked with such young stars as Adam Scott, Natalie Gulbis and Rickie Fowler.  In addition to his time as an instructor he is also a contributor on Britain’s Big Sky Sports and writer for Golf Digest.
