Cain Velasquez Biography

Growing up in Fresno, California and Yuma, Arizona Cain Velasquez idolized pro fighters for their toughness in the ring and worked hard to become of the top MMA fighters in the world.  During his days as a wrestler at Kofa High School he compiled a 110-10 career record and won the 5A Arizona Wrestling Championship twice while also playing linebacker for the football team.  After high school he won an NJCAA National Championship at Iowa Central Community College in the Heavyweight Division and then headed to Arizona State University where he finished in the top 5 at the NCAA National Championship for three consecutive years.  Upon earning his degree from ASU he began training and competing as a boxer, kickboxer and mixed martial artist.  In 2006 he made his MMA debut in Strikeforce and then headed to the UFC.  During his time in the UFC he has won two UFC Heavyweight Championships and successfully defended his title twice.  As a pro MMA fighter he compiled a 14-3 overall record with 12 knockouts.  In 2010 he earned Fighter of the Year honors from numerous fighting publications and was considered to be one of the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Velasquez officially retired from the UFC and joined the WWE in 2019.
