Chris Holtmann Biography

Chris Holtmann is tasked with making DePaul Basketball a winner again. Holtmann was previously the head coach at Ohio State, coaching the program to four NCAA Tournament trips in seven seasons. He was the Big Ten Coach of the Year in his first season, guiding the Buckeyes to a tie for second place in the conference.  

Holtman was previously entrusted with the head coaching job at Butler, leading them to three NCAA Tournament appearances in as many years, including a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2017. That year, he was named Big East Coach of the Year. 

Holtmann originally took the Butler job on an interim basis after a season as an assistant. He had spent three seasons as the head coach at Gardner-Webb and won the Big South Coach of the Year award in his final campaign. 

Holtmann's coaching career started as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Taylor University in 1997. He went on to assistant jobs at Geneva, Taylor, Gardner-Webb, and Ohio. Holtmann was an NAIA All-American player at Taylor.
