Frank Mir Biography

Frank Mir III is a mixed martial artist who is a former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion. As a child, Mir began competing in Kenpo Karate and as a teenager he earned his black belt. It was Mir’s father who convinced him to take up wrestling since it could help him avoid submission. Mir was noticed by Joe Silva and was told to prove himself in the MMA world. In 2004, Mir became the UFC Heavyweight Champion. During September 2004, Mir was knocked off of his motorcycle by a car that ended up in a break in Mir’s femur and torn ligaments in his knee. Mir returned to the ring in 2006 at the UFC 61: Bitter Rivals. Mir is expected to face Antonio Silva on February 20, 2015. During his career Mir has won Submission of the Night three times, 2011 Submission of the year, 2011 Comeback of the Year, and he has second most wins by submission.
