Gary Hall Jr. Biography

Gary Hall Jr. is a former competition swimmer. Hall comes from a family of Olympic swimmers. His father and maternal uncle both swam in the Olympics while his maternal grandfather was a national swimming champion. In 1996, Hall competed in his first Olympic Games at 21 years old. During the games, Hall had won two individual silvers as well as two team relay golds. Hall was suspended y FINA in 1998 for marijuana use and the following year, Hall was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After taking a short break from swimming, Hall competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics. In Sydney, Hall won the gold in the individual 50m freestyle, and the bronze in the 100m freestyle race. He also won a gold and silver in the team relays. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, Hall became the oldest American male Olympic swimmer at 29 since 1924. His age did not stop him from winning the gold medal in the 50m freestyle or from winning the bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
