Gary Pinkel Biography

Gary Pinkel was the head football coach at the University of Missouri. Pinkel attended Kent State University where he played tight end for the Golden Flashes. Pinkel’s coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Kent State. Pinkel also served as an assistant coach for the University of Washington, Bowling Green, and he went back to Washington in 1979 until 1990. In 1991, Pinkel became the head coach at the University of Toledo where he spent 10 seasons. Pinkel compiled three West Division titles and a conference championship in 1995. Toledo was one of three teams in the nation to complete the season undefeated. Pinkel became the head coach at the University of Missouri in 2001. He led the Tigers to three Big 12 North and two SEC East Division titles in 15 seasons. Pinkel holds the record for all-time wins at both Toledo and Missouri.
