Glenn Hall Biography

Glen Hall was known as “Mr. Goalie” during his 18-year career in the NHL, both for his stellar play on the field and his mastery of the butterfly style of goaltending. In 1955 he joined the Detroit Red Wings and played in all 70 games as a young phenom goaltender, and ended up winning the NHL Rookie of the Year award after leading the league with 12 shutouts. Over the next 15 seasons he’d play in an NHL record 502 consecutive games for both the Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. In 1961 he helped the Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup victory with a new career high 31 wins. He’d go on to be selected in the expansion draft by the St. Louis Blues and led them to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 1968. Four years after his retirement Hall took his rightful place in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
