Howard Twilley Biography

Howard Twilley is a retired professional football wide receiver who had a great collegiate and professional career. Twilley attended the University of Tulsa, where he set NCAA records in receiving and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting in 1965. At the time of his graduation, the AFL and the NFL both existed, and Twilley was drafted to both leagues, ultimately choosing to play for the AFL’s Miami Dolphins. He debuted with the Dolphins in 1966, and played with the team for ten seasons, including the final six that were spent in the NFL following the AFL/NFL merger. He was a key factor behind the Dolphin’s undefeated and championship 1972 season, and was the only player to be on the original 1966 Dolphins team as well as the 1972 championship team. Twilley ended his career in 1976, finishing with 212 receptions for 3,064 yards and 23 touchdowns, along with two NFL championships. Twilley is currently a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, and briefly pursued a career in politics in the mid-1990s.
