Ibtihaj Muhammad Biography

Ibtihaj Muhammad is a fencer who competed internationally for the United States.  She was the first Muslim woman who wears a hijab to compete for Team USA at the Olympics.  Muhammad first competed for the U.S. in 2010.  Coming into the 2016 Olympics, she was rated second in the U.S. and eighth in the world.  Muhammad is a five-time Senior World medal winner.  She also won the 2014 World Championship in the team competition.  Muhammad is a powerful sports embassador.  She serves on the U.S. State Department's Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports council.  Muhammad attended Duke University, where she was a three-time All-American.
