Ingrid Backstrom Biography

Ingrid Backstrom is a professional skier. Growing up in Seattle, Backstrom spent most of her winters skiing down nearby mountains. Backstrom attended Whitman College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in geology. After graduating, she went to Squaw Valley, California to participate in a yearlong stint as a ski bum. Backstrom’s plans changed after she found her niche in skiing while competing in a few free skiing contests. Since her trip to California, Backstrom has in the top three of 13 out of 16 free skiing contests she has entered. Backstrom has been awarded Breakthrough Performance in 2005 and 5-time Best Female Performance. In 2002, she was the only top female to be featured as Powder Magazine’s Future Big Mountain Heroes. Backstrom has appeared in multiple ski films, her most recent film was ‘Superheros of Stoke’ in 2012. Backstrom was named one of 50 most influential action sports athletes by ESPN in 2013.
