Jared Bednar Biography

Jared Bednar has led the Colorado Avalanche to an impressive record since taking over in 2016. The team made four straight playoff appearances prior to a standout 2021-22 season where they went 56-19-7 in the regular season and won the Stanley Cup over the back-to-back defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The success on the NHL level has been a dream come true for Bednar. His only previous coaching and playing experience came on the minor league levels. 

After a 12-year playing career, Bednar jumped into coaching as an assistant in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays from 2002-07. He won a league championship in his second year and moved on to become an assistant in the AHL. Bednar became a head coach at that level with the Peoria Rivermen, but he later won a league championship with the Cleveland Monsters. Bednar is the first coach to win an ECHL, AHL and NHL title.
