Javier Castellano Biography

Javier Castellano is a member of the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame and has won over 4,000 races. He began his career as a jockey in Venezuela in 1996 and moved to the United States a year later. His first big victories, including the Breeders' Cup Classic, came atop Ghostzapper in 2004. Ghostzapper won the 2004 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year. Castellano won his first Triple Crown race at the Preakness Stakes in 2006. He won the Preakness Stakes again in 2017. In 2013, Castellano set a new single-season record for jockeys by collecting $26.2 million in winnings. He won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey each year from 2013-16 for having the most purse winnings of any North American jockey.
