Jens Pulver Biography

Jens Pulver had a successful mixed martial arts career that spanned nearly 15 years. Pulver landed in the UFC in 1999 and less than two years later, he won the organization's inaugural Lightweight championship. He successfully defended the belt twice, including notching a decision win over legend B.J. Penn at UFC 35. Pulver went on to fight in several organizations and retired with a 27-19-1 record.

He was first introduced to wrestling in the sixth grade and eventually became a two-time state champion on Tahoma High School in Maple Valley. In college, he wrestled at Highline Community College, where he earned NJCAA All-American honors. He finished his college wrestling career at Boise State University and earned his degree in criminal justice. Upon graduating he set his sights on a career in mixed martial arts and began competing on the underground circuit while becoming proficient in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
