Joe Girardi Biography

Joe Girardi played 14 seasons in the big leagues as a catcher with the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals. During his major league career he earned an All-Star selection in 2000 and helped the Yankees to three World Series titles in 1996, 1998 and 1999. After his retirement in 2003 he became a commentator for Yankees games with the YES Network and also served as a bench coach for the Yankees before being named the manager of the Florida Marlins for one season in 20006. In 2007 he returned to the broadcast booth with the YES Network before being hired as the manager of the New York Yankees in 2008. In his second season at the helm in 2009 he led the Bronx Bombers to their 40th pennant and 27th World Series title in franchise history. Overall, he compiled a 910-710 record in ten seasons as Yankees manager. After his run in New York, he was hired as the Philadelphia Phillies manager in 2019.
