John Amaechi Biography

John Amaechi is known for his outspoken opinions and his trail blazing efforts for gay athletes.  Amaechi became the first former NBA player to come out when he wrote his memoir, Man in the Middle.  He had an extensive career both in the NBA and oversees.  Amaechi spent his first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers before suiting up for the next three years in France, Greece, Italy, and the United Kingdom.  He then had his best stretch of his career with the Orlando Magic and finished his career playing two seasons with the Utah Jazz.  Amaechi was raised in England and returned there upon his retirement to participate in broadcasting and be an influencer.  He is a member of several Psychology organizations and is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.  Through his work with the ABC Foundation, Amaechi built the Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester.
