John McEnroe Biography

John McEnroe is one of the greatest male singles players in tennis history.  McEnroe was a seven-time Grand Slam champion, winning three times at Wimbledon and four at the U.S. Open.  He had a record eight-year end championships in his career and scored 77 singles titles on the ATP Tour.  McEnroe was also a three-time ATP Player of the Year.  In 1984, he set the Open Era's best single season win rate with a mark of 82-3.  McEnroe was in his prime during one of the great eras in men's tennis and had fierce rivalries with legends Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, and Ivan Lendl.  He is a former Davis Cup captain for the U.S. and won five cups as a player.  In 1999, McEnroe was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.  He remains one of the most colorful figures not only in tennis, but in all of sports.  McEnroe has led a distinguished post-tennis career in broadcasting.  He also regularly continues to compete on the ATP Champions Tour.
