Juwan Howard Biography

Juwan Howard played 19 seasons in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, Charlotte Bobcats, Portland Trailblazers and Miami Heat from 1994 to 2013. He joined the Washington Wizards in 1994 as a first round pick out of the University of Michigan.  

While at Michigan he was a member of the famed Fab Five, helped the Wolverines to unprecedented success from 1991 to 1994, and earned All-American honors during the 1993-94 season.  

During his rookie season, he earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors and would go on to earn both All-Star and All-NBA Third Team honors in 1996. Throughout his long and successful career he averaged 13.4 points per game, including a career-high 22.1 points per game in 1995-96 while playing in Washington. 

From 1994 to 2004 he averaged over 17 points and 7 rebounds per game in route to becoming one of the most notable players in the league. During his last two seasons in the league, he helped the Miami Heat two consecutive NBA titles.  

In retirement, he became a coach, originally joining the Heat as an assistant before being named the head coach at his alma mater, the University of Michigan in 2019. He led the Wolverines to appearances in the Elite Eight and Sweet 16 during his five-year tenure.
