Kris Knoblauch Biography

Kris Knoblauch has had a quick rise to the top of an NHL bench with the Edmonton Oilers. Knoblauch was hired as head coach during the Oilers 2023-24 season, turning them around to post a 46-18-5 record. The Oilers went all the way to the Stanley Cup Final. 

Knoblauch was previously the head coach of the minor league Hartford Wolf Pack. He was also the head coach of two different teams in Canadian junior hockey, winning two league championships over seven seasons. Knoblauch's only prior NHL coaching experience came during two seasons as an assistant with the Philadelphia Flyers. 

Knoblauch was actually drafted into the NHL as a player, but never made it to the top league, He played junior hockey, collegiately and for a handful of seasons as a pro, before pursuing coaching.
