Mary Pierce Biography

Mary Pierce was born in Montreal, Canada and was raised in the United States. She was first introduced to the sport of tennis as the age of 10 and was ranked No. 2 in the country by the age of 12. As a tennis phenom, success came as the result of hard work and dedication to her craft. In 1994 she reached the finals of the French Open and put her name on the map as a top world competitor. The following her she solidified that reputation with a win at the Australian Open. Over the next 12 years she won 511 singles matches and 18 World Tennis Association Events, including the 2000 French Open. She reached her top singles ranking of No. 3 in the world in 1995. As a doubles player she also reached the No. 3 ranking in the world after winning the 2000 French Open, and posting 197 wins and 10 WTA event wins over her career. In mixed doubles she was just as successful, winning the 2005 Wimbledon title just before her retirement in 2006.
