Mike Gminski Biography

Mike Gminski was born and raised in Monroe, Connecticut and signed on to play basketball at Duke University after a stellar prep career at Masuk High School, where he starred on the basketball team and graduated in three years. Upon joining the Blue Devils he started all four years from 1977 to 1980 and earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors in 1977 to go along with ACC Player of the Year honors in 1979 and first-team All-ACC honors in three consecutive years from 1978 to 1980. During that time he also earned Second Team All-American honors in 1979 and 1980 and finished his career with 2,323 points, 1,242 rebounds and 345 blocks. In the 1980 NBA Draft he was selected in the 1st round with 7th overall pick by the New Jersey Nets and went on to play with the Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks. In 1994 he retired with 10,953 points and 6,480 rebounds.
