Mike Woodson Biography

Mike Woodson is a former NBA head coach and the current men's basketball coach at his alma mater, Indiana. Woodson was previously the head coach of the New York Knicks for parts of three seasons. He guided the Knicks to the playoffs twice. Woodson took over the team on an interim basis in 2012 after head coach Mike D'Antoni was fired. He had spent six seasons as a head coach of the Atlanta Hawks before arriving on the Knicks bench. Woodson led the Hawks to three straight playoff appearances from 2008-10. Before becoming a head coach, he was an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. He won an NBA champion on the Pistons bench in 2004. Prior to getting into coaching, Woodson spent a decade as a player. He played for six different franchises and scored over 10,000 career points. Woodson was also a college star, scoring over 2,000 points at the University of Indiana. As a senior, he was named a second-team All-American.
