Paul DePodesta Biography

Paul DePodesta is the chief strategy officer for the Cleveland Browns. He joined the organization in 2015 after a professional career spent in baseball. Prior to joining the Browns, DePodesta was the vice president of player development and scouting with the New York Mets. He previously had the roles of special assistant for baseball operations and executive vice president with the San Diego Padres. DePodesta is best known for being the fifth youngest general manager in baseball history when he was hired by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2004. In his first season on the job, the Dodgers won their first playoff game in 16 years. DePodesta started his front office career with the Cleveland Indians in 1996. He gained great notoriety in baseball circles after serving as an assistant to general manager Billy Beane with the Oakland Athletics. DePodesta graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University. He played baseball and football for the Crimson. DePodesta was portrayed by actor Jonah Hill in the film Moneyball, which is based off a book of the same name and chronicles the rise of the Oakland franchise under Beane.
