Peter Angelos Biography

Peter Angelos has been the principal owner of the Baltimore Orioles since 1993.  The team has won two American League East titles and been to the playoffs four times under his watch.  Angelos built much of his wealth through his law firm and specifically by representing winning plaintiffs in asbestos lawsuits.  His firm was originally started in 1961, but switched focus in the 1980s from criminal law to civil class action lawsuits.  Ever since he attended the University of Baltimore Law School, Angelos has been making efforts to be a strong part of the community.  He served on the Baltimore City Council in the late 1950s and early 1960s and also attempted a run at mayor.  In 1988, he was honored as “Marylander of the Year”.  Angelos has also donated over $10 million to his alma mater in the city.  The first generation Greek-American was given the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1996.
