Rob Blake Biography

Rob Blake is the general manager and executive vice president of the Los Angeles Kings. He is best-known however for his Hall of Fame playing career. Blake spent 14 of his 21 seasons with the Kings. He was a six-time All-Star and winner of the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 1998. During his initial stint with the Kings, he was the team's captain for four years. Blake also helped lead Los Angeles to the 1993 Stanley Cup Final. He did not win a championship until his first season with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001. After a two-year return to the Kings in 2006 and a two-year stint with the San Jose Sharks, he retired in 2010. Upon retirement, Blake became the NHL's hockey operations manager. He was hired by Los Angeles as their assistant general manager in 2013 and the team won a Stanley Cup in his first year with the club. Blake was named GM in 2017. Outside of the NHL, Blake had significant experience as an international player with Team Canada. He competed in three Olympics and won a gold medal in 2002. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014 and his number was retired by the Kings the following season.
