Ron Hunter Biography

Ron Hunter is a coach on the rise in the eyes of many in the college basketball world. Hunter is the current head coach at Tulane. He has already won three Sun Belt titles in his time at Georgia State, making the NCAA Tournament each time.  The 14th seeded squad even played the role of Cinderella in their opening round win over Baylor.  Hunter’s son, two-time Sun Belt Player of the Year R.J. Hunter, hit a game winning three with under three seconds to go to topple the third-seeded Bears.  Hunter has become popular around the country for hopping out of his chair after the shot even though he had a torn Achilles he suffered celebrating Georgia State’s Sun Belt championship.  He began coaching the Panthers in 2011 after 17 seasons at IUPUI.  He saw the rise of Jaguars from the NAIA level and won 20 games three times once the program got to Division 1.  Prior to IUPUI, Hunter was an assistant at Miami (Ohio) and Milwaukee.
