Ryan Getzlaf Biography

Ryan Getzlaf is a center in professional ice hockey. Standing 6’4”, he shoots right handed and has played the entirety of his twelve-year professional career, to date, with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Getzlaf is also a member of Canada’s national team as he is a Canadian native. He was born in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1985 and grew up in an athletically minded family with one brother, excelling in a variety of sports. Getzlaf starred in both football and baseball throughout his childhood before choosing to focus solely on ice hockey. Once set his mind to pursuing a career in hockey, Getzlaf never turned back. He joined junior club teams and was drafted into the Western Hockey League by the age of 16, still standing beneath 6 foot. Getzlaf also made it to the American Hockey League before being added to the Mighty Duck’s roster of the National Hockey League out of training camp to commence the ’05-’06 season. He has been playing for the Anaheim Ducks ever since and has also obtained four gold medals over the years, at the 2003 IIHF World U18 Championships in Russia, World Junior Championships in the U.S., and Winter Olympics both in 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi, respectively. Getzlaf has established himself as an extremely respectable athlete and human being while he competes with passion for the Anaheim Ducks while raising money to seek a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and simultaneously maintaining a program known as “Getzlaf’s Games” that enables underprivileged children to attend hockey games.
