Scott Stevens Biography

Hockey Hall of Famer Scott Stevens is one of the best defensemen in NHL history.  Stevens is well known for his association with the New Jersey Devils and captained the franchise to three Stanley Cup wins.  In 2000, he won the Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup MVP.  The 22-year veteran is one of the all-time leaders in games played and penalty minutes.  When his #4 jersey was retired by New Jersey in 2006, he was the first player in franchise history to receive that honor.  Stevens was a 13-time All-Star and got his start with the Washington Capitals.  He helped the Capitals advance to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.  Washington originally selected him fifth overall in the 1982 NHL Draft and he bypassed the minor leagues entirely.  Stevens is currently the co-head coach of the Devils with Adam Oates.
