Tom Kite Biography

Tom Kite began playing golf at age six and it quickly became his life. After a stellar amateur and collegiate career at the University of Texas he turned pro in 1972 and won 38 professional events, including 19 PGA Tour wins, two wins on the European Tour, and 10 Champions Tour wins. In 1992 Kite captured the U.S. Open title and also finished second at the Masters Tournament in 1983, 1986 and 1997 and at The Open Championship in 1978. In 1981 and 1988 he recorded his best finishes at the PGA Championship by finishing fourth both years. Kite was the first player in PGA Tour history to reach the $6 million, $7 million, $8 million and $9 million milestone in career earnings and led the tour in earnings in both 1981 and 1989. In addition to playing the game he has also contributed several course designs that have revolutionized the playing surface. For his contributions to the game he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004.
