About Andrew Ference
Andrew Ference is a retired Canadian NHL defenseman known for his gritty play and environmental advocacy. His career spanned 12 seasons (2000–2016) with Pittsburgh, Calgary, Boston, and Edmonton, during which he recorded 58 goals, 162 assists, and 220 points. Drafted 208th overall by Pittsburgh in 1997, he reached the 2004 Stanley Cup Final with Calgary and won in 2011 with Boston, contributing four goals and 13 assists in the playoffs. A passionate "eco-warrior," Ference starred in National Geographic’s 2012 “Beyond the Puck” series and promoted sustainability, notably organizing Boston’s 2011 Cup parade. After retiring in 2016, he transitioned to broadcasting and philanthropy. He is currently the NHL Director of Social Impact & Player Programs, remaining a respected figure for his leadership and off-ice impact.
