About Arvydas Sabonis
One of the trailblazers for European basketball, Arvydas Sabonis made an indelible impact on the game that will be felt for generations to come. Sabonis was one of the first European players to be talked about worldwide and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. He was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1986, but would not step on an NBA floor until the 1995-1996 season. Prior to his seven year NBA career, Sabonis spent the majority of his prime playing overseas. He still was an All-Rookie pick in 1996 and went to two Western Conference Finals with the Blazers. Sabonis was recognized as the best European basketball player in the world six times with the Euroscar Player of the Year Award. The Lithuanian won Olympic gold for the Soviet Union in 1988. Sabonis is currently the president of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation.
