About Ashleigh McIvor
Ashleigh McIvor is a Canadian Olympic gold medalist and a BC Sport Hall of Fame inductee. McIvor captured the gold medal in women’s ski cross at the 2010 Olympics. She won the first medal ever awarded in the event at the Olympic level. McIvor also took gold at the 2009 World Championships, has a ski cross silver from the 2010 X-Games, and 11 medals from the World Cup circuit. Overall, she has participated in four X-Games. Due to injuries, she retired from competition in 2012. In 2012, Sportsnet Magazine named her as one of the 30 Most Beautiful Athletes on the Planet. McIver has been a skiing commentator for CBC in her retirement. In addition, she spends some time modeling and attending speaking engagements. She is married to Jay DeMerit, a former American soccer star who was captain of Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps. McIvor began ski racing at the age of ten.
