About Becky Hammon
Becky Hammon is a pioneer for all women in sports.Hammon was the first female full-time professional assistant coach for any men’s major professional sports team.She was hired by Greg Popovich to join his San Antonio Spurs staff in 2014.This historic hiring led to Hammon being honored as the ESPNW Woman of the Year for 2014. She went on to serve as the head coach of the team during the NBA Summer League in 2015. Hammon also made history, filling in as the acting head coach during a regular season game in 2020 when Popovich was ejected.
Following her successful NBA run, Hammon returned to her WNBA roots as the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces in 2021. In her first season, the Aces won the WNBA championship. Hammon had previously been a star point guard for the franchise when they were based in San Antonio. The six-time All-Star was voted one of the 15 best players in league history in 2011. Hammon was a four-time All-WNBA pick during her time with the New York Liberty and San Antonio Stars. She was just the seventh player to score over 5000 points in her WNBA career. Hammon made the playoffs 13 times, including a trip to the WNBA Finals with the Stars in 2008. In her offseasons, Hammon also played professionally overseas and in the NWBL. She has competed internationally for the U.S. and Russia, winning bronze with the latter at the 2008 Olympics. Hammon owns many records at her alma-mater Colorado State and is a member of the school’s Sports Hall of Fame.
