About Bethany Hamilton
Bethany Hamilton is a professional surfer from the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. Having grown up on the North Shore she has been a surfer girl her entire life. With dreams of one day becoming a surfer on the ASP World Championship Tour, she was always in the water. One could say that she was at one with the ocean. However, her life took a turn she did not expect in 2003 when she was attacked by a shark and lost her left arm. It was a struggle, but she overcame the adversity to get back in the water with a modified surfboard and eventually reached her dream of landing on the ASP World Championship Tour. She chronicled her journey back in the 2004 best seller Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get on the Board. The book inspired millions, and eventually became a hit film in 2011. In 2014 Hamilton won her first pro event at the Surf ‘n’ Sea Pipeline Women’s Pro, and has been one of the most solid performers on the ASP circuit over the last seven years.
