About Brian Gionta
Brian Gionta was an NHL right winger who played 16 seasons in the league for four different teams. He attended Boston College on an athletic scholarship, leading the Eagles to a National Championship during the 2000-2001 season. Considered one of the best collegiate players over his four years as an Eagle, Gionta was drafted 82nd overall in the 1998 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils. After starting his career with a season in the AHL, Gionta was called up to the Devils in 2001, and he did not disappoint, immediately making an offensive impact for a team that lacked consistency. In 2002, Gionta helped the Devils win the Stanley Cup Championship, scoring 25 points in 58 games. His best statistical season came in 2005, as Gionta set the Devils’ record for most goals in a season with 48, a record that still stands today. In 2009, Gionta signed with the Montreal Canadians, playing three seasons and acting as the team’s captain for most of his tenure. In the 2014 offseason, Gionta signed with his hometown Buffalo Sabres, and served as the team’s captain.
