About Chris Hammond
Chris Hammond began his Major League Baseball career when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1986 MLB Amateur Draft. He made his first appearance with the Reds in 1990 as a left-handed starting pitcher. Since Hammond didnt have an over-powering fastball, he was known as a junkball pitcher for keeping his pitches outside the strike zone and getting batters to chase after them. Hammond had a relatively mediocre career for the first 8 seasons with 3 different teams and even retired following the 98 season. In 2001, he made a return to the MLB by signing a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves. In 2002, Hammond was promoted to the MLB club and produced a remarkable season, recording a 0.95 ERA in 76 innings during 62 games. His career made a resurgence but after 5 seasons with 5 different teams in 2006, Hammond finally retired from the game for good.
