Christian Laettner

Known for quite possibly the greatest play in college basketball history, anyone who follows the sport of basketball knows who Christian Laettner is. After getting recruited as early as his freshman year, Laettner eventually chose to attend the storied basketball program of Duke University. After stepping on the floor at Duke, the rest is history; compiling accomplishments such as ACC Player of the Year, Consensus All-American, College Basketball’s Player of the Year, and most importantly 2 NCAA DI Championships. Laettner was known for his performances during March Madness, still holding 4 NCAA Tournament records including most games played with 23. One of those games was an East regional final against rival Kentucky that came down to the final second. After a full court pass, a catch with his back to the basket, Laettner turned around and put up a jump shot that went into the hoop and then into the memory of everyone. In the final year of his college career, Laettner was selected as the only college player on the ’92 Olympic Team, “The Dream Team”, adding an Olympic Gold medal to his resume. In his 15-year NBA career, Laettner never amounted to the performer he had been on the college stay, only earning one appearance in an NBA All-Star game. Since retirement, Laettner became an entrepreneur with investments in the Memphis Grizzlies, a AAA baseball team, and his own training camp.
