Christine Ohuruogu

Christine Ohuruogu is a track and field athlete for Britain who is currently the defending World Champion in the 400 meters event. A standout athlete from the very beginning, the London native ran track and played netball throughout her childhood, earning a spot in the London Youth Games Hall of Fame. Ohuruogu broke onto the international stage in 2003 with a bronze medal in the European Junior Championships. Just one year later she made her first appearance for her country at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, qualifying for the semifinals. Her first major success came in the 2006 Commonwealth games where she won a gold medal in the 400m. She then took the world by storm winning 7 medals throughout 5 World Championship performances. Ohuruogu has one gold medal to her name from the ’08 Beijing Olympics and a silver from the 2012 Olympics in front of her home crowd of London. She had a three month ban placed on her for missing two random drug testings, to which the British Olympic Committee responded with a lifetime ban from the Olympics beginning in 2006. However, Ohuruogu appealed the decision and won, citing that she had never failed a test before and there was no suspicion of her ever using illegal substances.
