Daryl Homer

Daryl Homer is a pioneering American fencer who became the first U.S. male saber fencer to win an Olympic medal, earning silver at the 2016 Rio Games. He was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to the Bronx at five. Inspired by the dictionary image of a fencer at 11, he joined the Peter Westbrook Foundation, a program introducing inner city youth to the sport.

Under legendary coach Yury Gelman, Homer quickly excelled, earning bronze medals at the 2007 Cadet and 2009 Junior World Championships, and NCAA titles in 2009 and 2010. He competed in the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympics, winning silver in individual saber in 2016—the first U.S. men’s saber medal since 1984 and the first silver since 1904. He also secured a silver at the 2015 World Championships, a first for a U.S. male saber fencer, and is a ten-time team and three-time individual Pan American champion.

Homer graduated from St. John's University in 2013 with a degree in advertising communications and works at the marketing agency Anomaly. He is a brand ambassador for Fencing in the Schools, speaking to inner-city youth about discipline and athletics, and has been coaching at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Manhattan since spring 2024.
