About David Akers
David Akers played 16 seasons in the National Football League as a placekicker with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions from 1997 to 2013. He got his start in the NFL after a standout career at the University of Louisville in which kicked a school-record 36 field goals. In the 1997 NFL Draft he went undrafted, however he eventually worked his way into a starting role in the NFL and became a six-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection. In 2011 he won the Golden Toe Award with the San Francisco 49ers after setting an NFL record for most points scored by a kicker with 166 and most field goals made with 44. Akers was an instrumental member of the Eagles NFC Championship team in 2004 and 49ers NFC Championship team in 2012. For his stellar play with the Eagles from 1999 to 2010 he was named to the NFL 2000’s All-Decade Team and Philadelphia Eagles 75th Anniversary Team.
