About David Bailiff
David Bailiff played his college football at Southwest Texas State from1978 to 1980 as an offensive lineman. Upon earning his degree he signed on as the defensive line coach at New Braunfels High School in Texas before heading back to his alma mater in 1988 as a graduate assistant coach. From 1989 to 1991 he coached the defensive line at Southwest Texas State and eventually earned a job in that same role at the University of New Mexico in 1992. After five seasons in New Mexico he returned to Southwest Texas State once again, as their Defensive Coordinator. In 2001 he joined the Texas Christian University coaching staff as the defensive coordinator and served in that role until being hired as the head coach at Texas State in 2004. During his three seasons at Texas State he led the Bobcats to a Southland Conference Championship in 2005 and 21 total wins. In 2007 he was hired as the new head coach at Rice University and led them to four bowl games and two Conference USA titles in 2008 and 2013.
