About David Blatt
David Blatt grew up in Massachusetts and played his college basketball at Princeton University from 1977 to 1981. In 1981 he was selected to play for the USA National Team and helped the stars and stripes to a gold medal in the Maccabiah Games. After the games he played for seven teams in the Israel Super League from 1981 to 1993 and also played in the Atlanta Pro-Am League in 1984 to 1986. After retiring as a player in 1993 he turned his focus to coaching and served as an assistant coach and head coach in the Israel Super League and Euroleague from 1993 to 2004. He went on to coach in the Russian Super League, Adriatic League and Italian League from 2004 to 2014. During his time as a coach overseas he was named Israeli League Coach of the Year four times, Russian Super League Coach of the Year in 2005 and Euroleague Coach of the Year in 2014 while leading his team to six Israeli Cup Championships, five Israeli League Championships, a FIBA EuroChallange Championship, an Adriatic League Championship, Italian Cup Championship and Euroleague Championship. Prior to being named the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 he helped the Russian National Team to a bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympic games.
