About DeMeco Ryans
DeMeco Ryans has his dream job as head coach of the Houston Texans, his NFL home for the first six seasons of his playing career. Ryans' profile as a coach rose quickly after he worked his way up from quality control coach to defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-22.
Ryans was originally selected in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Texans. During his first year with Houston, he earned NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after recording 155 total tackles. He’d go on to earn First Team All-Pro honors in 2007 and Pro-Bowl selections in 2007 and 2009. In 2010 the Texans signed him to a six-year extension.. The following year he was honored with the Ed Block Courage Award for his leadership and service in the community. In 2012 he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played his final four years.
Ryans is an Alabama boy who played college football for the University of Alabama. While playing for the Crimson Tide he earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2005. That season he also earned First Team All-American honors while also winning the Lott Trophy, Butkus Award Draddy Award, and Nagurski Award as both the top linebacker and defensive player in the country.
