About Denise Austin
Denise Austin’s route to being named to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports began when she fell in love with athletics as a youngster in San Pedro, California. Growing up she got into gymnastics as a hobby and eventually earned a scholarship as a gymnast at the University of Arizona. After competing at Arizona she moved on to Cal State University and earned her bachelors degree in physical education with a minor in exercise physiology. Upon earning her degree she began teaching fitness classes, producing and distrusting instructional fitness videos and writing books and columns on fitness and healthy living. In 2002 she was named to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and went on to serve several terms in that role. In addition to her over 50 fitness videos and instructional dvd’s she has hosted her own fitness show on ESPN2 called Getting Fit.
