About Dr. Jerry Punch
Jerry Punch is an ESPN auto racing and college football analyst. Punch got his start in broadcasting during high school, doing various jobs with the radio station up until college. Punch then attended North Carolina State, serving as the school’s backup quarterback and graduating in 1975. Following his graduation, Punch went on to get his M.D. from Wake Forest University. Originally a physician, Punch signed on with ESPN in 1984 as a pit reporter for NASCAR races. He would go on to serve in this role for a long time, and played a pivotal role in helping medically with various crashes in the sport. Along with his NASCAR reporting, Punch has broadcasted collegiate basketball and football games for ESPN, becoming a medical expert for the team. Punch was named the lead announcer for NASCAR on ESPN, but was replaced in 2009 by Marty Smith, relegating him back to pit road duties, where he currently works today.
