Earl Monroe is a retired NBA shooting guard who played 14 seasons in the league with the Washington Bullets and the New York Knicks. Prior to his time in the NBA, Monroe played collegiately at WinstonSalem State University for four seasons, earning Player of the Year honors and averaging over 20 points every season, including an unheard of 41.5 during his senior season. Following his graduation, Monroe was drafted by the Washington Bullets in the first round of the 1967 NBA Draft. In his rookie season, Monroe earned Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 24.3 points. The next five years with the Bullets would be great for Monroe, as he would be named an NBA All Star two times and emerge as one of the top players in the game. In 1972, Monroe was traded to the New York Knicks, where he would help the team win the 1973 NBA Championship and also earn two more All Star nods. Nine years later, Monroe retired from the game, ending his career with over 17,000 points, and has been honored by having his number retired by both the Bullets and the Knicks.
