About Ed Viesturs
Being introduced to climbing as a college student at the University of Washington, Ed Viesturs is one of the most successful American mountain climbers in history. After climbing three of the largest mountains in the world on his own, Viesturs became a full-time mountaineer as he assists others on their first ascents. Viesturs is the first American and 12th person overall to climb all 14 mountains that are over 8,000 meters high and set a record for climbing Mt. Everest 7 times (which has since been surpassed). Viesturs was featured in the IMAX movie Everest as he helped the IMAX crew up the mountain which was twice delayed by blizzards. The documentary shows Viesturs ascent up the mountain to help rescue climbers who were trapped on the mountain due to the storms. Outside of climbing, Viesturs has made an appearance in many magazines, film features, and guest TV appearances and in 2005 was named as National Geographics Adventurer of the Year.
