About Eddie Giacomin
Eddie Giacomin is a 1987 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame after a 19 year playing career in the NHL and AHL. Starting his career when there only 6 goaltending jobs in the NHL, Giacomin started his professional career playing for the Providence Reds of the AHL. After a successful career with the Reds, the New York Rangers traded for Giacomin in 1965 and he came in right away as the starting goaltender for the Rangers. After losing the job in his second season, Giacomin responded with a turnaround of play that led to him regaining the starting role and then holding that spot for 9 seasons. In that tenure, he led the NHL in shutouts three seasons (68, 69, 71) and won the Vezina Trophy in 1971 for the NHLs top goaltender. After losing his job due to injuries, Giacomin signed with the Detroit Red Wings for three seasons before retiring in 1978 with a career record of 289-208-97. Giacomin ended his Hall of Fame career ranked 19th in career shutouts (54) and 25th in career wins (289).
