Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards is a legendary English ski-jumper. Edwards overcame the odds, when, in 1988, he became the first British ski-jumper to compete in the Olympics in 1928. He held Great Britain's record in the event from 1988-2001. Edwards did this despite being well underfunded and very farsighted. He finished dead last in his two Olympic runs, but that lack of success actually made him popular around the world. Edwards capitalized on the newfound fame to become an inspiration to many. A film about his story, Eddie the Eagle, came out in 2016 and was the highest-grossing film in the UK that year.
