About Elfrid Payton
Elfrid Payton chose to stay close to home to play college ball and accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. After a breakout sophomore year where he averaged 15.9 ppg. Payton was selected to the U-19 USA roster to play in the FIBA World U19 Championship. Payton started all 9 games for Team USA and was a key figure that helped bring home a gold medal for the USA. Payton returned to the Ragin Cajuns for a junior season and helped his team to a berth in the NCAA Tournament on his way to a National Defender of the Year selection. After his stellar junior year, Payton declared for the NBA Draft where he was selected 10th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was traded on draft night to the Orlando Magic and was the team's starting point guard for four seasons. Payton subsequently suited up for the New Orleans Pelicans and currently plays for the New York Knicks.
